Helping Hands Tutors
Pediatric Physiotherapy Associates is happy share about a new resource for parents. Helping Hands Tutors provides private tutoring and other academic services for children with a variety of special needs and disabilities. All of the tutors are Ontario Certified Teachers with Special Education qualifications. The tutors have the opportunity to work with students who are receiving paediatric therapy such as Occupational Therapy, Physiotherapy and Speech/Language Therapy. This provides access to therapy consultation during the course of tutoring if needed. With parental consent and based on assessment, a paediatric therapy service provider may recommend strategies to help facilitate the learning process. Rock Wall Climbing at Variety Village
Anne-Marie Hamilton and Stephanie So recently completed their Introductory Climbing Certification. They are now able to access the climbing wall at Variety Village and utilize climbing as part of a client’s therapy program. Rock climbing is an ideal activity to work on arm and leg strengthening, co-ordination and motor planning. It is also an excellent activity to help children and youth feel a sense of accomplishment as they problem solve their way up the wall.
Zach’s List
Having a child with special needs takes a tremendous amount of work and energy, yet many of the parents we meet seem to rise above the difficulties and look for ways to make a difference. Such is the case with the parents of Zachary, one of triplets, who has the diagnosis of cerebral palsy. With five children in the family, they quickly realized that the expenses involved with having a child with specialized equipment needs could add up quickly. They also realized that children are always growing and this means they are often outgrowing their equipment. Many times, while still in good shape, it ends up as storage in garages or basements. They decided to create an online community for equipment exchange, and Zach’s List was formed. For more info visit www.zachslist.ca or call 416-419-8917.
